Out of the box
These days, COVID oblige, remote working is the rule. For Mathias, this does not really match to what he had expected: “When I met my future colleagues, they were all bragging to me about the advantages of the consulting profession: being in the field, at the heart of reality…” For the moment, only two or three on-site visits to the customer sum up the situation. Fortunately, the end of the tunnel appears to be near.
Today, at 22, Mathias is the youngest employee of FiveForty°. He continues his ERP training with Amel on a finance project at Transdev. “I am broadening my knowledge of the tool on this particular aspect. It is very interesting to complete your knowledge of financial transactions with someone who has a wealth of experience in corporate auditing”, he explains. A lifelong fan of video games, he particularly appreciates simulation games where you see your house grow, the city that is being built around it: "I like to feel the sense of progress, to see my actions have an impact on the evolution of the world around me." Mathias also gives meaning to his desire to learn. His goal, to be as versatile as possible. "In the same way as those who helped me, I would also like to pass on my knowledge, it's something that motivates me," he continues.

A good meeting
Far from imagining that one day he would be a consultant at FiveForty°, Mathias
meets Jonathan, its co-founder, while he is working in the logistics department of
BWT, the European leader in water treatment. At the time, Mathias was totally new
to ERP since he had oriented his studies towards a quality and logistics degree
supplemented by a license in logistics. Looking for a first job in this field, he had
approached Jonathan to ask him for some advice and contacts. Jonathan then
offers him a direct interview with Alexandre, his partner, and Joseph, a consultant
with excellent experience in this industry.
A different spirit
"I had just interviewed twice. A first company would hire me subject to possible
future projects; the other had dropped me in the second round," recalls Mathias,
a boxing enthusiast in his spare time. "I immediately felt that the approach of
FiveForty° and its family spirit was something else. Jonathan had indicated to me
that the interview would happen in a neighborhood restaurant. In the end, that
was not possible there but everything happened cheerfully around the beers they
had brought." Mathias, who feels he is often stressed, specifies: "more than an
interview, it was a real exchange. We laughed a lot with Alexandre; it helped me to
open up more easily about what I had done, my knowledge, my projects. Nothing
to do with the interviews that I had prepared before."
Outside the box
Even though he is still a junior, his ideas about the qualities required to be a good
consultant are already well established. For him, in order to adapt to new situations,
flexibility is essential. "When an ERP is being set up, or any new solution, there is the
expectation that things will not go as imagined", he points out. The "think outside
the box" mindset is an essential quality: "thinking outside the box and how the
system works makes it possible to come up with an, at first, unthinkable solution.
One has to be able to imagine responses when a customer asks for specific
developments." Finally, for Mathias, mastery of English makes it possible to
overcome many problems: "At Idemia, within a project to set up a parent entity
centralizing all the company's data, there were colleagues who worked from
France, Hungary, India and Russia. A good level of English was much more than
a little extra.”
Just like Tita, the cockatoo of his childhood, music accompanies him everywhere.
Mathias' playlists are varied; there is both classical and progressive rock.
King Crimson was a revelation. “This music takes you very far”, says the man who
would like to see FiveForty° develop into logistics. Maybe to the moon, where he
dreams of going?°
